Babies and flat feet Part 2 (Teacher: Michael)

It is sometimes said diagnosis of flat feet can be made by looking at part of shoes where greatest amount of wear has taken place. If your child wears down heels and soles of his shoes on inner side, there may be problem.

Another trick is to get child to stand in water and then put their feet onto plain piece of paper. If feet are normal shape they will show classic 'footprint' pattern but if feet are flat then whole foot will leave outline on paper.

If child complains of pains in his feet after modest exercise then diagnosis of flat feet is certainly worth consideration.

To encourage feet to develop properly, encourage your child to walk about in bare feet as often as possible. Ensure -that when shoes are worn they fit well and provide good support.
