It is a pity that modesty so often prevents a patient from getting advice at the start of an attack of cystitis.

The first remedy the patient often takes is wrong. They dread the passing of urine and so cut down their, fluid intake. This makes matters worse. The urine becomes more concentrated and more irritating to the bladder.

The patient should take more fluid than bland drinks. Remember that the bladder and urethra are normally sterile - free from all germs.

The next step if one gets a UTI (the technical name for a urinary tract infection), is to take tremendous hygienic care.
